Todo List

Runs locallyInput stays in your browserFree, no sign-up

This is a minimal todo list: add a task, check it off, filter between All / To do / Done views, and clear completed items in one go. Everything is stored with the browser's localStorage on this device — no accounts, no server-side storage. Writing a task appends one JSON row locally; reloading the page reads it back and rebuilds the list. Why local-only? Todo items are usually private plans, and local storage removes sign-up, login and syncing entirely, so your list never leaves the device.

Three scenarios cover most uses. First, daily planning: list a few things each morning, check them off through the day, review the completion count at night. Second, shopping or packing lists: tick items off one by one, clear the checked ones, reuse the pattern next time. Third, capturing stray tasks: follow-ups jotted down during meetings land here first instead of getting lost, then get worked through one by one.

The limits are worth stating plainly. Data lives in this browser only — switching computers or browsers, or clearing site data, wipes the list; for cross-device sync, use a notes app. Private or incognito windows may discard localStorage when closed. Each task is capped at 200 characters, enforced both by the input field and the code, so longer pastes are truncated. Browser storage quotas are usually around 5 MB, far more than plain-text tasks need; if a write ever fails there is no error popup, the list simply stays in the current session and will not survive a refresh.

The page also shows live counters — total, done and to-do — updating with every action. View filters switch between the three states, and Clear completed removes every checked item at once. Task text is HTML-escaped before rendering, so pasting code or special characters cannot break the page. The whole tool makes zero network requests and works offline.

How to use

  1. Type a task and press Enter, or click Add
  2. Click the box in front of a task to check it off; click again to uncheck
  3. Switch between All / To do / Done views, and use Clear completed to remove checked items in bulk

FAQ

Do my tasks survive a page refresh?

Yes. Tasks are kept in the browser's local storage, so refreshes and browser restarts keep them. The catch is that it is this browser only — a different computer, a different browser, or cleared site data means the list is gone.

Are my tasks uploaded to a server?

No. There is no account system and no code that sends your data anywhere; every localStorage read and write happens on your device, and the tool works offline.

Can I sync between my phone and computer?

No. That is the deliberate trade-off of a purely local tool: zero sign-up, zero waiting, zero privacy worry. For multi-device sync, use your system notes or a cloud notes app.

Is there a length limit per task?

Yes — 200 characters. Both the input field and the code enforce it, so longer pastes are cut to the first 200 characters. A todo list works best with short tasks; split long text into several items.

Can I recover tasks after clearing completed ones?

No — clearing deletes them permanently, there is no trash bin. Clear completed only touches checked items, so unfinished tasks are safe; check a task off only when it is truly done.
